Don Bies ’55

Don Bies was just 12 years old when he won the Washington State Tiny Tad Champion in 1950. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1955 and became a professional golfer in 1958.

Among his Northwest wins are; Washington State Open (1959, 1980, 1987), Washington State PGA Match Play (1961, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1983), Northwest Open (1962, 1984), Al Giusti Memorial (1987, 1988), BC Open (1980).

Bies joined the PGA Tour in 1968. For thirteen years he played with and competed against some of the best, including Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Lee Trevino. He has one PGA Tour win – The Greater Hartford Open in 1975.

In 1988, Bies joined the PGA Senior Tour and is a veteran of more than 300 tournaments on the Senior PGA circuit, with seven championships.

In 1989 Bies won the New Zealand Open and in 1993, Don Bies was elected to the Northwest PGA Hall of Fame.

Recent wins include Washington State Senior Open (2002, 2003), Northwest Senior Championship (2002, 2003) Oregon Senior Open (2005) and Pacific Northwest PGA Seniors (2005).

Bies was born in Cottonwood, Idaho. He is relishing his retirement, spending time with friends and family. He lives with his wife Marilyn in the Broadview area.
