Alan “Moose” Clausen ’56

Alan Clausen graduated from Ballard High School in 1956 and went on to a successful career with the Seattle Mariners, and as a constant community volunteer.

Baseball coaches, Don Burnett and Tony Gasparovich gave him the nickname, “Moose” which has remained all these years. He graduated from Central Washington State University with a degree in Economics. At Central, he played baseball and was a 190 plus average bowler for Central in which he earned recognition as a member of the All-College Bowling team. Moose is on the Central Washington University Athletic Wall of Fame. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Army.

Moose was recruited by New York Life Insurance and spent 14 years as an insurance agent. He is a Life and Qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table. His achievements also earned him the President’s Board Honors, where 25 agents in the country are voted in by their peers to go to New York City to advise top executives about new ideas and suggestions.

In 1982, Moose became director of sales for the Seattle Mariner Baseball Club. In his 28 years with the Mariners he has done it all from group sales to season ticket sales to lining up the singers for the National Anthem, as well as singing the anthem once when the singer could not make it on time.

Moose is very active in the community, which includes membership past or present in the Ballard Rotary Club, President of the Ballard Exchange Club, the Washington Athletic 101 Club, the RBI Club, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hope Heart Institute, the Central Washington University Foundation, and the Ballard High School Foundation. His involvement with many charitable activities was recognized when the RBI Club of the Seattle Mariners named the award THE AL “MOOSE” CLAUSEN COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD that is given annually to such ball players like Edgar Martinez and others for their service to the community. Moose was also the Alumnus Honoree for the 2003 Ballard High John Boitano Golf Classic and a 2002 recipient of the Captain William Ballard award for outstanding service to Ballard High School.
