Art Hansen ’47
Art Hansen graduated from Ballard High School in 1947 and went on to become a nationally renowned artist.

A contemporary American painter, etcher and lithographer, Art Hansen had his first one-man show at the Seattle Art Museum in 1952. That same year he received a Pulitzer Prize for his art and the following year he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship which enabled him to complete his education in Munich, Germany. His artistic sensitivity shows a variety of influences from America, Europe and Japan.
He has exhibited around the United States as well as in Germany. His work is in collections such as the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., Microsoft, Seattle Art Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, Davis Wright Tremain, and the New York Public Library. He has exhibited his art extensively since 1960 and has developed a strong reputation for both his still life compositions and landscapes which are often drawn from the area of Vashon Island, his home.
