Thomas A. Alberg ’58

Tom Alberg is one of Ballard High School’s most successful alumni.

Tom grew up in Seattle’s Blue Ridge neighborhood and while at Ballard was the Sophomore Class President (1955-56) and Senior Class President (1957-58). He was a member of the Honor Society, Debate Team and Ski Team. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1962 and his law degree from Columbia School of Law in 1965 cum laude and was an Editor of the Law Review. After graduation, Alberg was a lawyer with Cravath, Swaine, & Moore in New York City. He then moved back to Seattle and was Chairman of the Executive Committee & Partner of the Seattle law firm, Perkins Coie, the largest law firm in the Pacific Northwest, where he represented major industrial and emerging technology companies in corporate & securities matters.

Alberg is a leader in financing and advising emerging technology companies in the Pacific Northwest. He is a founder and Managing Director of Madrona Investment Groups created in 1995. The Madrona Funds invest in and support emerging companies developing innovative services & products in software, Internet & telecommunications. He previously served as President of LIN Broadcasting Corporation and Executive Vice President of McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. He is a Board member of Advanced Digital Information Corp., amazon.com, and several private technology companies. Alberg has served as Chairman of the Technology Alliance (2004-06) and is a member of the Executive Committee of TechNet.

Alberg received the National Association of Corporate Directors award for Leadership in Corporate Growth in 2006. Alberg as a Director of public and private companies, is recognized by his peers for outstanding Board service, contributions and leadership during a period of extraordinary growth.

Alberg is Co-chairperson of the Raven Foundation, a charitable Foundation, a member of the Board of Classic KING-FM, a past Chairman of the Pacific Science Center, and the Seattle Foundation. He is a founding member of the Ballard High School Foundation.

Alberg continues to impact the Seattle community in positive and innovative ways. He epitomizes the great possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead for all Ballard High School graduates.
