He received his administrative credential coursework from Seattle Pacific University and the University of Washington during the years 1969, 1970 and 1971. One of the metaphors he heard early in his boy scouting camping experience in the 1940’s was “Leave your campground in better shape that you found it.” This simple message never seemed to have left him as you will see from the following description of his journey since leaving Ballard High.
After several teaching positions at elementary, secondary, high school, and college levels he worked as an Assistant Superintendent in Grandview, Washington and then spent eighteen years as the Superintendent of Schools in Yelm, Washington. He became very involved in city and county affairs during this time and it included the Yelm Planning Committee, Parade Director, Chamber of Commerce, serving on several local boards and memberships in a local service club along with other local organizations.
His retirement has included serving as principal of a high school for incarcerated youth, as adjunct professor in five Washington universities, running as a candidate for the Washington state legislature, and teaching in four universities overseas ─ three in East Africa and one in Armenia. He continues to be involved in the education field in East Africa where he will work in 2015. He has donated several thousand books to the libraries where he has taught and has assisted many students and faculty members over the past several years with his work in Africa. Mr. Nutter is currently assisting twenty students with fees and a few computers.
Among the many honors he has received are Administrator of the year from the Washington Association of Educational Office Personnel (WAEOP) and NDEA Fellowship, Peabody College.
